Adding a Mr Verandah custom designed deck is a great investment in your home, but it’s natural to have some questions before you commence. Below are the most common questions about decking people ask our team.

Will I need a permit if I’m replacing an existing structure?

Yes, a Building Permit is usually necessary, and Mr Verandah will organise this for you

Do you use a contract?
Yes, a simple and easy to understand contract will be provided and will need to be signed by both parties.
Do you provide a guarantee or warranty?
Yes, all of our work has a full 10-year structural warranty.
Can we build a verandah or pergola on a deck?
Yes, we can design and integrate a new verandah or pergola to attach to new or existing decking.
What is the best timber decking material to use?

We recommend Merbau decking, as it is stable and long-lasting requiring very little maintenance and upkeep. However, we can use many other types of deck.

Can I build a deck to the fence?
Mr Verandah will check your individual situation. Usually, this is not possible as councils have very strict rules on the location of decking.
Do I need a permit to construct a deck?
A Building Permit is usually necessary. Mr Verandah will organise the permits to ensure that your new verandah is built to regulation and the council requirements.
How close to the ground can I build a deck?
We can build your deck very close to the ground by using special H4 treated support timbers that comply with the regulations and will last for decades.
Is it better to use nails or screws to fix a deck?
Nails are a cheaper option however screws hold better and are more long-lasting. If you receive a quote from us, we will discuss and help you decide on the fixing, providing you with all the options.
Do I need handrails?
You do not require a handrail if your deck is less than 1m high. If your deck if over 1m, you will require a handrail. We will discuss the requirements with you and provide a range of handrail options.
Do I need a town planning permit?
A planning permit may be required by your local council for a range of reasons, which are out of our control. We can advise if a town planning permit will be required and organise this for you.
What is the process for getting a new deck built?
